Originally crafted to season cast iron cookware, Hearth & Harmony Spell Oil is perfect for blessing your home and all those within.

Hearth & Harmony Spell Oil is a lovely potion welcoming all the energies one could hope for when blessing their home and those who dwell within. Each ingredient was carefully chosen for properties of well-being, and while I first created it as a seasoning oil for my cast iron cookware to amplify the magic in my cooking, it has turned out to be quite a bit more versatile.
This spell oil is the primary ingredient in Blessing the Forge, my cast iron dedication spell, and all the things that made the ingredients work for that purpose also make them good for other uses, both in the kitchen and beyond.
Properties Of Each Ingredient
Before I go into depth on the reason for choosing each ingredient, it’s important to mention that none of these ingredients were chosen for their protective qualities. That’s because iron is the protective power in Blessing the Forge.
That said, it doesn’t mean protection isn’t there, it just needs to be stated as an intention when adding that particular ingredient.
More on that in a bit, but first, let’s go over what’s in this spell oil and why.
Avocado Oil
Because this recipe was first developed for seasoning cast iron cookware, it was important to choose an oil with a high smoke point.
Most guides call for cast iron to be seasoned with other fats, such as vegetable oil or Crisco®. But none of the “typical” seasoning oils felt right energetically. I wanted something more natural that’s already in my pantry.
Avocado oil has an extremely high smoke point of about 520°F (271°C) making it an excellent choice for seasoning cast iron. But it’s also something I keep on hand. Avocado oil has desirable magical properties, most notably love, but it’s also a magnet for money0, making it an excellent choice for prosperity and abundance.
Herbal Trio
When you season cast iron cookware, the oil bonds to the metal through a process called polymerization. That means it’s not just the magical properties that transfer into your food, but the flavor, as well.
The herbs chosen for this spell complement each other, and their flavor is versatile enough to not overwhelm everyday dishes.

Making Substitutions
As I mentioned before, this spell doesn’t include protection, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there!
Remember, this oil was made to season cast iron cookware. Iron is a highly protective metal, so there was no need for additional protection. But if you look at the magical properties of each herb, you’ll notice that all three have protective energy.
If protection is something you want to weave into this spell oil, that’s easy to achieve!
Personally, I would fold protection in with rosemary, changing the spoken intention to, “Rosemary for love and protection.” It’s clean and simple.
This alone should be enough, but if you want to take it a step further, you could also modify the incantation with a simple word swap:
By this oil, may blessings flow,
Happiness, health, and love will grow.
Abundance thrives, protection near,
Infused with magic, strong and clear.
As I blend, my will takes flight,
Shielded in care and sealed with light.
As with most spell recipes, substitutions can be made and incantations rephrased to make it uniquely your own.

Materials
- Avocado Oil
- 1 part Oregano
- 1 part Rosemary
- 1 part Thyme
Spell Instructions

- Cover the jar with a tight-fitting lid (airtight) and gently agitate the mixture. As you mix, recite the incantation below.
- Place the jar beside a sunny window to activate the spell with solar energy. Gently agitate the jar every day while repeating the incantation.
- On the 6th day, remove the solids by straining the oil into a clean glass jar using a cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer. Gently squeeze the cheesecloth or press down on the strainer to fully exract the oil.
- Cover the completed spell oil with an airtight lid. Label the jar with the date and name of the blend. Store for up to six months in a cool, dry place. (The refrigerator is best.)

Instructions for Assembling Hearth & Harmony Spell Oil
When Adding Ingredients
It’s important to state the intention of each ingredient as you add it to the jar:- Oregano for happiness and joy.
- Rosemary for love.
- Thyme for health.
- Avocado oil for abundance and prosperity.
Incantation
As you gently agitate the potion, both initially and each day of steeping, recite the following incantation: By this oil, may blessings flow, Happiness, love, and health will grow. Abundance thrives, prosperity near, Infused with magic, pure and clear. As I blend, my will takes flight, Cast with care and sealed with light.Additional Notes
Regarding Jar Size
The size of your jars depends on how much oil you want to make. Just remember that it has a shelf-life. When you notice the smell is fading or it starts to smell a little off, that’s a good sign that the oil is going bad and therefore the magic is fading. It’s time to make a new batch!Fresh vs. Dried Herbs
Fresh herbs are generally best, but their high water content may cause the oil to spoil more quickly than if dried herbs are used.- If using dry herbs, you’ll want to keep your ratio at about 1-2 total tablespoons of herbs per cup of oil.
- 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons | Example: Per cup of oil, use 1-2 teaspoons each of oregano, rosemary, and thyme, keeping the ratio of herbs at 1:1:1.
Activating The Spell With Solar (Fire) Energy
If you don’t have a sunny window, no problem! You can use a candle to activate the infusion: Each day of the steep, light a candle, center yourself, and begin the daily ritual of gentle agitation coupled with reciting the incantation. If you don’t have a candle, don’t sweat it! The magic will still work.Steeping Time
Six days were chosen for this recipe because the number six is associated with affection, family, harmony, and home. Depending on your herb-to-oil ratio, a 6-day steep will result in an infusion with mild to moderate flavor. This strength is ideal for seasoning cast iron, but it may not be what you’re looking for as a cooking oil. You can adjust the strength of the potion by changing the number of days you steep it for.Using This Spell Oil
By now, you know the original intention of this oil was pretty narrow. So is there a reason to make it if you don’t plan to use it on cast iron? I think the answer to that is yes. In addition to serving as a cooking oil, the list of possible uses is limited only by your imagination.
Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Entryway Blessing: Anoint doorframes to invite happiness, health, and prosperity into your home.
- Candle Dressing: Rub a small amount on spell candles to enhance their energy.
- Ritual Baths: Add a few drops to bathwater for a luxurious, magical soak that promotes self-love and well-being.
- Wardrobe & Jewelry Blessing: Dap a small amount in an inconspicuous spot into clothing, shoes, or jewelry to carry happiness and protect you from illness.
- Pet Blessing: Dab a small amount onto your pet’s collar to bring them happiness and keep them healthy.
Creating spell oils and using magically dedicated home goods are both examples of how you can weave magic into your everyday life. The important thing is not overcomplicate it and don’t get hung up on the details.
Do the spells. Make mistakes. Adjust and try again. You’re a witch because you practice witchcraft, not because you study it. ✨
