Hearth & Harmony Spell Oil
Author: Éirinn | The Cottage Cauldron
Originally formulated for the Blessing The Forge cast iron dedication ritual, this blend can also be used for salad, cooking, or as general anointing oil. ✨
Print Spell
- Avocado Oil
- 1 part Oregano
- 1 part Rosemary
- 1 part Thyme
In a clean glass jar, add the herbs one by one. Be sure to remove woody stems. As you add each herb, speak its intention.
Pour enough avocado oil into the jar to completely cover the herbs. When adding the avocado oil, speak its intention.
Cover the jar with a tight-fitting lid (airtight) and gently agitate the mixture. As you mix, recite the incantation below.
Place the jar beside a sunny window to activate the spell with solar energy. Gently agitate the jar every day while repeating the incantation.
On the 6th day, remove the solids by straining the oil into a clean glass jar using a cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer. Gently squeeze the cheesecloth or press down on the strainer to fully exract the oil.
Cover the completed spell oil with an airtight lid. Label the jar with the date and name of the blend. Store for up to six months in a cool, dry place. (The refrigerator is best.)
Instructions for Assembling Hearth & Harmony Spell Oil
When Adding Ingredients
It's important to state the intention of each ingredient as you add it to the jar:
-
Oregano for happiness and joy.
-
Rosemary for love.
-
Thyme for health.
- Avocado oil for abundance and prosperity.
Incantation
As you gently agitate the potion, both initially and each day of steeping, recite the following incantation:
By this oil, may blessings flow,
Happiness, love, and health will grow.
Abundance thrives, prosperity near,
Infused with magic, pure and clear.
As I blend, my will takes flight,
Cast with care and sealed with light.
Additional Notes
Regarding Jar Size
The size of your jars depends on how much oil you want to make. Just remember that it has a shelf-life. When you notice the smell is fading or it starts to smell a little off, that's a good sign that the oil is going bad and therefore the magic is fading. It's time to make a new batch!
Fresh vs. Dried Herbs
Fresh herbs are generally best, but their high water content may cause the oil to spoil more quickly than if dried herbs are used.
- If using dry herbs, you'll want to keep your ratio at about 1-2 total tablespoons of herbs per cup of oil.
- 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons | Example: Per cup of oil, use 1-2 teaspoons each of oregano, rosemary, and thyme, keeping the ratio of herbs at 1:1:1.
Activating The Spell With Solar (Fire) Energy
If you don't have a sunny window, no problem! You can use a candle to activate the infusion:
Each day of the steep, light a candle, center yourself, and begin the daily ritual of gentle agitation coupled with reciting the incantation.
If you don't have a candle, don't sweat it! The magic will still work.
Steeping Time
Six days were chosen for this recipe because the number six is associated with affection, family, harmony, and home.
Depending on your herb-to-oil ratio, a 6-day steep will result in an infusion with mild to moderate flavor. This strength is ideal for seasoning cast iron, but it may not be what you're looking for as a cooking oil.
You can adjust the strength of the potion by changing the number of days you steep it for.
